My specialty is helping professional experts and aspiring thought leaders make their mark within their particular field of endeavour by building public recognition for their ideas, their expertise and insights.
This in turn leads to a growing sphere of public influence and greater impact in the marketplace.
THE STORY BEHIND MY COACHING & MENTORING SERVICE
For much of my working life I have advised clients on PR and communications strategy, often helping to execute programs and campaigns on their behalf.
But in more recent years, as I started advising more and implementing less, I began incorporating more educational elements into my client servicing. To me, it made sense to help build my clients’ skills and capabilities, especially around social media and content marketing, both of which are well-suited to someone with a strong DIY ethic.
Over time, I found myself sitting down with entrepreneurs and aspiring thought leaders and not just helping guide them through the process of strategically building their profile and reputation in the marketplace, but also mentoring them on playing a bigger game.
Little by little, a pattern began to emerge: consulting (in its purest sense) was giving way to coaching.
Conversations with individual clients became deeper and more expansive, not to mention, more personal.
Yes, we discussed personal branding and thought leader marketing.
Yes, we covered social media, content marketing, PR and the like.
Yes, we talked through goals and aspirations; we plotted and planned, and collaboratively developed programs of activity.
But we also worked through issues such as personal productivity, apps and tools, public speaking, publishing books, and in many instances, overcoming the dreaded ‘Imposter Syndrome’.
Critically, playing a bigger game tended to be high on the agenda; more often than not, my role has been one of agitator, cheerleader and accountability partner, all rolled into one.
We’ve had tears, we’ve had tough-love conversations. Often, we’ve celebrated brilliant ‘a-ha moments’ that had us pumping our fists in the air!
FAST FORWARD TO TODAY …
In the words of someone (a famous rap artist potentially?) … this shit just got real!
While I continue to consult to companies and organisations, equally now I also coach and mentor individuals on how to more effectively build recognition and reputation for their personal brand, in turn to leading greater influence and impact in the marketplace.
Coaching/mentoring is a pretty intimate one-on-one experience for both client and coach.
If you’re considering working with a coach or mentor, it’s important to ensure you’re philosophically aligned and that you share similar values. That’s number one.
Number two, and without putting too fine a point on it, there is no shortage of coaches running around who, quite frankly, don’t have the runs on the board. We’re inundated by ‘coaches’ flooding the socials with platitudes. Lots of surface noise out there, but very little depth.
Thus, it’s important to do your homework: does the coach you’ve got your eye on bring sufficient value to the table?
Have they got the requisite knowledge, experience and ‘in the trenches’ track record to genuinely help you?
